New for 2009
No Lost Child Program
Carolina Beach and USLA are developing a program to reduce the number of lost and missing children on area beaches. The program will work as follows for Carolina Beach:
Each stand will have the upper platform painted a different color.
The two groups of stands on the northern and southern ends of the beach will each have a set of colors.
At each stand, lifeguards will have colored armbands that match that stand's designated color.
The armbands are similar to those used at water parks. They will be placed on the child's wrist by a parent or guardian.
In the event that a child is found wandering on the beach strand, this program will greatly aid in returning the child to his or her parents in a timely manner.
Giving the children a colored armband and identifying each stand with a color should reduce the number of lost or missing children and adults for the 2009 season.
If you have any questions regarding this program, please feel free to contact us.
Beach Erosion in 2009
Lifeguard stands on the northern portion of Carolina Beach have been compromised for the past couple of years due to erosion.
Due to the amount of erosion that has occurred over the 2008-2009 winter, additional stands on the north side of the beach have been in danger of falling in the ocean. Any stands that have been removed from the area will hopefully be replaced by the start of the summer season.
This serves as a reminder to swim near a lifeguard. You may need to find a location in the central or southern side of the beach to be under the watchful eyes of the Carolina Beach lifeguards this summer.
Every effort will be made to keep lifeguard stands and patrols in the affected areas.
Remember, Swim Near A Lifeguard.
2009 Regional Lifeguard Competition to be held in North Myrtle Beach
Carolina Beach was proud to host the regional competition for the first time in 2008 season. We now would like to invite everyone to support Carolina Beach lifeguards as they journey to North Myrtle Beach for the 2009 games.
We will be holding our Second Annual Season Kickoff Car Wash on May 2.
It will be located in front of the Carolina Beach Police Department.
The Pleasure Island Lifeguard Association North End Cup Volleyball Tournament will be May 16 at the North Pier. Get your team of five together and join us for an afternoon of volleyball and other events on the beach.
The Annual Shrimp-a-roo on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk will be July 3. There will be plates full of boiled shrimp with all the sides.
Come out and support your local lifeguards! Money raised from these events return directly to your area lifeguards. Funds are used to buy equipment and supplies and for travel to regional competitions that are not funded by the town.
