Welcome to the Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue web site. The Carolina Beach lifeguards have been serving Pleasure Island since the 1930s. The program has grown continuously over the years, and Carolina Beach now staffs the 4.5 miles of shoreline with 38 seasonal lifeguards, 1 full-time position, and 1 part-time beach safety officer.
The Carolina Beach Ocean Rescue season operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day. On Monday through Thursday, the beach is guarded from 9:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m, and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, hours are from 9:45 a.m. until 6:45 p.m. Some ATV patrols may exceed the hours listed.
The three miles of beach strand are monitored from 12 fixed lifeguard stands and three ATV patrol units. This will also be the second season the 1.5 miles of Freeman Park (the North End) will be guarded with five ATV patrol units and one mobile trailer stand. Two pickup trucks are also used for Freeman Park patrols.
The inlet, harbor and waters off the beach strand are patrolled using a personal watercraft with a sled and a patrol boat operated by the Carolina Beach Police Department.
Carolina Beach and its waters are covered by the Carolina Beach Fire Department and Federal Point Fire Department. A New Hanover Regional Medical Center EMS Station is also located on Carolina Beach with a water rescue vehicle.
